to cope with the traffic. It is expected that
the superior efficiency and speed of the wireless
service will suffice to attract the major portion
of the traffic at the 20 cents rate. If however
it is eventually found necessary to reduce to the
level of the land telegraph rate, the reduction
will be borne equally by both Administrations.
I may conclude by remarking on the remarkable
cordiality shewn throughout the visit by the Commissioner
for Foreign Affairs and by the Administrator Colonel Fu and
his staff. I was also impressed by the sincerity of Mr.
Chu's assurance that he would co-operate to the fullest
extent possible in providing Canton with an efficient
wireless service for communicating with Hong Kong and that
he would use all his influence in obtaining the necessary
funds for the purpose from his Government.
